prosper. That which others say will be heard; what you say will be accounted nothing. Others will ask and receive; you will ask but will not obtain. Others will be great in the sight of men, but about you there will be silence. To others this or that will be committed, but you will be accounted useful for nothing.  Because of this your nature will sometimes be in anguish, and it is a great thing if you bear it in silence. In these and many like instances, the faithful servant of the Lord is often tried, how far he can deny and in all things break himself.
     There is scarcely anything in which you have such need to die to yourself, as in seeing and suffering those things that are adverse to your will; especially when that is commanded to be done which seems inconvenient, or useless. And because you are under authority you dare not resist the higher power, therefore it seems hard to walk at another's nod, and to give up your own opinion.   But consider, My son, the fruit of these labors, the end coming swiftly, and the reward exceedingly great; and you will not have heaviness from these things, but the strongest comfort of your patience.
